The Bygone Lodge exists on the border of reality and imagination. On this site, the Lodge is a fantasy shop selling TTRPG campaign settings, stories, and games made and run by its creators, Mar von Zellen and Tom Gestinger. In the realm of your imagination, the Lodge is an enchanted cabin that sells magical artifacts and is run by two adventurers - Sparrow and Hawk.

So why is the Bygone Lodge real and fantastical at the same time? As content creators, we know role-playing is a unique experience where we learn more about ourselves and others. We know this magical effect extends deeper into our lives than just those moments spent around the game table. And if you allow it, you can bring magic into your real life - when you visit a bookstore, you can buy a book and thank the writer, or you could instead purchase a magical artifact and thank the mage who sold it to you!

Our goal is to give you the chance to do both: acquire a role-playing book created by a passionate team, and possess an artifact of great power that lets you explore new worlds. The Bygone Lodge isn’t just an online store, because it's fun to imagine something more.

Mar von Zellen

Since she was little, Mar has enjoyed all types of art, from classical piano to drawing and book-binding. But writing stories was her creative bulls-eye. She's written short stories, poems, and historical novels, gotten a degree in creative writing, and published her poetry in various journals. And during all of it, she never stopped gaming. Gaming has always been a part of her life - starting with Zelda on N-64 and Pokemon on Gameboy - and now her passion is to combine her love of games and role-playing with her love of writing to create worlds others can explore in an active way.

A mystical, eccentric aura surrounds Sparrow, giving one the feeling she's always up to something. Besides tending the counter at the Bygone Lodge, she spends her nights archiving artifacts and compiling histories in the basement. She can pick a mean lock, knows how to slip out of a room unseen, and practices magic and Tarot in her spare time. Her preferred method of communication with adventurers is through written notes, which she sends via her shape-shifting familiar. More than anything, Sparrow wants to help make adventuring accessible to anyone who has an inkling of curiosity and an imagination longing to be set free.

INTRODUCING
AND
AS

Tom is a former child with way too much imagination. In pursuit of trying to satisfy his imagination, he became a professional game designer, game producer, director, and other mundane things. He studied teaching and archaeology and worked for years in the video gaming industry, which helped him accrue a decent mix of skills for creating interesting tabletop role-playing experiences. He's a passionate forever-GM, game maker, and world builder, and he plays the role of Hawk in the Bygone Lodge.

Tom Gestinger

Hawk is an adventurer turned businessman. He uses his adventuring experience to hunt down artifacts, dispatch adventurers on quests, and run a network of researchers who study long-lost cultures for the Lodge. Hawk's goal is mostly preservation - finding and cataloguing artifacts before others can misuse or destroy them. To make sure the Lodge operates smoothly, he also runs the store alongside Sparrow, selling artifacts of lesser importance and not much destructive power. He's a bad merchant, though, often giving things away for free.
